Elle regroupe de nombreux artistes qui percent depuis les années 2000. Certains ont un véritable succés commercial, on peut les entendre à la radio et les voir à la télévision. D'autres sont plus discrets, jouent sur des scènes locales. Ils chantent leur engagement politique, le quotidien... Ils s'inspirent des chanteurs des générations précédentes et mêlent cette influence avec des styles musicaux plus récents (musique électronique, etc.). La variété de ces influences permet à ces artistes d'attirer aussi bien un public jeune que des personnes plus âgées.</DIV></P></FONT></b></FONT></BODY></html>

Ils n'attirent pas que les fumeurs de joint mais, à l'instar du Hip-Hop véhiculent aussi un message de résistance, de tolérance. Ces artistes jouent régulièrement dans des festivals qui attirent surtout la jeunesse française. De nombreux groupes de reggae étrangers viennent également se produire en France en sachant qu'ils trouveront un public. Du fait de l'histoire plusieurs pays sont francophones (Afrique, Québec...). Ainsi des chanteurs africains écrivent et chantent en français et dans leur langue. Ils touchent de cette manière le public de leur pays mais s'exportent aussi en France. Les styles sont assez divers.
